Quick Tip
Possessive pronouns show ownership and stand alone — no noun follows them.
Use: mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs.
Tip: Do NOT add an apostrophe. "It's" means "it is" — never use it for ownership.
Teacher Resources
Teaching Notes

Contrast with possessive determiners: My bag (my + noun) vs. The bag is mine (mine alone). Draw a two-column chart on the board to separate them.

Vocabulary
Possessive Pronoun: Shows ownership; replaces a possessive noun.
Ownership: The state of having or owning something.
Common Mistakes
  • Writing it's (contraction) instead of its (possessive)
  • Confusing possessive determiners (her bag) with possessive pronouns (The bag is hers)
  • Using their (determiner) instead of theirs (pronoun)
