Quick Tip
When the bottom numbers are the same, just subtract the top numbers! Keep the bottom number the same. Example: 3/4 - 1/4 → Subtract tops: 3 - 1 = 2, keep bottom: 4 → Answer: 2/4

Parallel to addition (610). Same rule: operate on numerators, keep denominator. 3/4 - 1/4 means '3 fourths take away 1 fourth = 2 fourths left.' Visual models show removing shaded sections.
